Dilatometry
The group operates a DIL 805 deformation dilatometer, capable of performing high-resolution dimensional change measurements as a function of temperature, alongside compression and tensile mechanical testing. The instrument can achieve temperatures of up to 800°C under vacuum, allowing phase transformation temperatures and transformation strains to be determined under controlled thermomechanical conditions. This makes it particularly suited to studying phase transformations, continuous cooling transformation (CCT) behaviour, and the coupling between thermal and mechanical response in structural alloys.
